What will I learn?

I believe that drawing is the number one skill that gets overlooked when we are filling our tool kit with all the things we need or want in regards to honing our artistic talents.

Drawing analysis allows you the freedom to be brave and get started on your piece with the awareness that you will be able to critique at each step of the way, and correct what went wrong.

The more practice the better of course and throughout the duration of this weekend each participant will use these skills in multiple settings, on multiple canvases, illustrating multiple scenes.

On Day 1 we will begin by working through a booklet where we will learn some of the language and movements that will allow us to deconstruct an image.

Following this exercise we will apply our new found skills in order to create and critique a drawing as a class. We will round out the day by jumping from a 2D image into life drawing, utilising PG rated pillow people, and various props, to test our ability to transfer what has been learnt into a 3D scenario.

On Day 2 we will begin working with paint and add the all important skill of working with Values to our growing tool kits. This will allow us to create believable forms quickly and with ease. Over the course of this day we will paint 3 images of the participants choosing, including an object, a landscape, and a portrait. Day 2 is based on my workshop ‘30 Minute Masterpiece’ - a way of working with time restriction to amp up productivity and ability to play and have fun in the studio.

Each participant can expect to walk away with a Drawing Analysis and Values workbook filled with information and tools, sketches, several paintings and an in-depth understanding of how to use their skills in both a 2D and a 3D setting.
