Watercolour Techniques For Beginners | Szczepan Urbanowicz

Szczepan’s (Stefan) BEGINNER watercolour course are intended to be a relaxing environment for students with “LIMITED” to “NO” watercolour experience. This course aims to teach each student basic watercolour skills by using well understood watercolour techniques in “easy to follow”, step by step painting methods.

All materials are included. All you need to do is turn up!

What will I learn?

• an understanding of what materials to use and why, including paper, paint and brushes
• to paint with washes, layers and fundamental brush techniques
• an understanding of how “gravity” and “time” affects the painting process
• to develop strategies to painting before you start
• how to mix colours with some basic colour theory
• the importance of composition, tone, depth, focal point and light/shade
• small tonal colour paintings (light wash to dark wash) and small painting using one colour

Class sizes are kept to a maximum of 12 students so that you will receive personal attention.

Who is this course suitable for?

This course is perfect for absolute beginners or for those who want to brush up on the fundamental techniques of watercolour.

What do I need to bring?

A notebook and pen is optional for note taking

What is provided?

All the materials you will need for this course will be provided, including:
• Cotman watercolour colours
• Watercolour Saunders Waterford paper
• Watercolour brushes
• Digital Certificate of Attendance.
• Working photos and handouts will be provided

• tea, coffee and biscuits (please bring your own cup)
• a friendly, supportive and encouraging learning environment
• connection to the Brisbane Painting Classes art community
