Charcoal Portraits – Finding a Likeness using Tone | Tricia Taylor

About this workshop

How do I get a likeness in my portraits? Portraits can be daunting, to say the least.

In these classes, Tricia will be focusing on the basics of portrait drawing to find a likeness working in charcoal on toned paper. She will give you some simple processes to give you confidence in finding a likeness. It is all about seeing proportion and tone.

What will I learn?

  • How to apply, move and remove charcoal
  • How to find likeness by using the power of proportion
  • How to see tone to find form as the foundation of a portrait
  • Learn how to use a proportion divider and find how helpful it can be to successful drawing
  • Learn to put the ruler and calculator away and find a freedom in using tone rather than line and being distracted by detail
