Fearless Watercolour | Keiko Tanabe

About this online workshop

**It will be held online via zoom as well as in our Albion Art Studios ** Please Note that Keiko is based in the US, so this workshop will begin at 8.30AM

Immerse yourself in the wonderful medium of watercolour painting. Keiko will share her fearless approach to the medium - watercolor could be the most exciting medium but is often said to be more unforgiving or difficult than other mediums.

This workshop is for those who refuse to believe that myth and are determined to have fun without struggling too much.

What will you learn?

Day 1 Keiko works tonally, so Saturday morning will be a value study and the afternoon will be all about colour Day 2 The morning will be revising the composition and sketches leading to the afternoon where a colour painting will be the result!

Through these small studies and step-by-step demonstrations, Keiko explains her methods and techniques that students will apply to their paintings. She also shares her decision-making process that enables students to understand key elements - composition and sketching - and how to make them work in a painting.

Who is this workshop suitable for?

Everyone is welcome! This is an online event. Artists with any level of experience are welcome in this workshop although some basic knowledge or previous use of watercolour is required.

What do I need for the workshop?

Meet Keiko Tanabe

Keiko was born in Kyoto, Japan and moved to the US to study. After learning basic drawing and watercolor painting skills at a local community school in San Diego, she took on her first project as an artist together with her father, a renowned scholar of French literature in Japan.

Keiko embarked on a professional art career in 2005 and started exhibiting publicly. In the same year, she took a workshop from Alvaro Castagnet and discovered the joy of Plein-air painting. Since that year her paintings have been juried into many exhibitions across America and in Asia and Europe.

Additionally, her art has been published to date in nine books as well as on four DVDs. She's also a sought-after workshop instructor. Since 2011, she has been invited to and completed successfully more than 400 workshops and numerous live demonstrations around the world.

In 2015 she was named an official Ambassador for Winsor & Newton. In 2018, she was appointed to the advisory board of the American Watercolor Weekly. In 2018 and 2019, she was invited to be a faculty member for the Plein Air Convention & Expo, the world's largest Plein-air painting event.
