About this workshop

Looking for a new, fun creative activity? Learn the art of Japanese brush stroking and create spontaneous shapes for flowers, landscapes and all creatures great and small, with just the flick, squash and roll of your brush!

In this half-day workshop, you will be able to see and learn all the loose marks and strokes Di uses to create different shapes and objects. You will also learn how to mix colours and in particular, how to use several colours on a brush at one time.

You will be guided in creating your own wrapping paper and gift cards

What will I learn?

  • Japanese brush mark-making - including various brush techniques
  • Colour mixing
  • Forming shapes to create beautiful, loose, spontaneous and colourful images

Who is this course suitable for?

This course would suit all skill levels from beginners upwards

What do I need to bring?

Just your enthusiasm, as all materials are supplied!

What is provided?

  • All materials, including:
    • Large sheets of wrapping papers
    • Watercolour paper for gift cards
    • Watercolour paints and brushes
  • Easels, tables and chairs.
  • Tea and coffee (please bring your own cup)
  • A friendly, supportive and encouraging learning environment
  • Connection to the Bienarté art community

About the Tutor

Dianne Kelly is a Brisbane born-and-based professional watercolour artist.

Di was originally trained in commercial/fine art, working in advertising before pursuing her absolute love and sharing her passion for watercolour painting.

Di is still teaching 32 years later and has now fulfilled her dream of writing her first book, The Art of Watering Colour. Over the years, Di has had several of her paintings published as limited edition prints, as well as producing several ranges of gift cards featuring watercolour images from her overseas travels.

Di’s works hang in collections around Australia and overseas and are currently being incorporated into her new range of fabrics, wallpapers and swimwear.
