About this workshop
Begin your journey with acrylics with an introduction to a simple studio layout – an easy way to approach your paintings from setting up your palette to the basic principles of painting a landscape. There will be demonstrations, painting, and personalised guidance.
We move on to colours, perspective and lots of painting designed to free you from yourself and allow the creative juices to really flow! Then more demonstrations, painting, and personalised guidance. Also focusing on specific subjects, i.e. trees, skies, buildings and more painting with personalised guidance.
At the end of the workshop, you will have the knowledge of a procedural pathway which you may use to help you approach the blank canvas.
Also, you would have had the opportunity to complete at least one painting.
What will I learn?
The course will initially focus on fronting the blank canvas using procedures that have helped Gary through his professional career, including:
- Set up
- Palette / equipment
- Choosing subjects
- Simplifying design and transferring to canvas
- Easy beginnings
- Through to finished painting

Suitable for beginners as well as established artists.
What do I need to bring?
Your usual painting kit, which should include:
- Your preference of painting paper, boards, or canvas (size: A3 up to A1)
- A4 sketch pad and pencils
- 1” flat brush and small detail brush
- Subject photographs
- Acrylic Paints – What you already have including:
- White
- Cadmium Yellow Light
- Cadmium Yellow Deep
- Cadmium Red
- French Ultramarine Blue
- Phthalo Blue
- Dioxazine purple
- Large palette
- Rags and bucket

- Easels, tables, chairs
