Jane James
Resume
The natural world, sea and marine conservation are central themes and inspiration for Brisbane-based visual artist, Jane James. Spanning a range of media including drawing, painting, sculpture and printmaking, Jane’s work is underpinned by a deep love of draftsmanship, craftsmanship and design.
Jane has a deep fascination with the language of art and how it may be employed to convey meaning. This is evident in the rope motif often found in Jane’s work, as well as through objects cast in paint – a unique process developed by Jane which she continues to explore in her latest body of work.
Her works have been exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions across Australia, in New York and Fiji, and have been selected as finalists and winners in Marine and Natural History Art awards.
Jane regularly travels through the Asia Pacific region, collecting material for her art projects and conducting teaching residencies in Marine Art. She also has many years of experience as a lecturer and tutor in Australia.
