About this class
Over 4 consecutive Monday mornings, students will build upon elementary drawing skills and further refine visual interpretation and pencil techniques while observing various subjects of increased complexity.
This observational drawing class is ideally suited to those who have attended Annette’s Drawing Fundamentals course, however all students will be welcomed.
What will I learn?
You will develop drawing construction methods, proportion and value; and in addition you will acquire new skills in
- Emphasising mass and volume
- Simulating a variety of surface textures
- Creating the illusion of depth and distance
- Gesture and sketching techniques
- Charcoal and pencil techniques
Who is this course suitable for?
Subject choice and extension exercises will be tailored to cater for the needs of each student and therefore this course will cater to multiple levels of drawing experience and ability.
What do I need to bring?
Please bring your own materials, or purchase the Bienarté Drawing Kit to keep and use in class
It includes:
- Pencils: HB, 2B, 4B, Mars Lumograph 7B
- Paper stump
- Pencil Sharpener
- Kneadable Eraser
- Battery Eraser
- Timber skewer

Meet the Artist
Annette is a professional artist with a Bachelor of Fine Art and Advanced Certificate in Art and Design, teaching a variety of mediums for over 25 years.
She is particularly interested in drawing and has developed a unique approach with emphasis on teaching observation skills, ensuring students’ ability to see and interpret what they see using graphite pencil onto a two dimensional surface. Her workshops address different learning styles and include practical demonstrations and media application.
Annette encourages her students to explore possibilities, make mistakes and extend their learning while in a relaxed, friendly environment.
